We have sold all of our dairy goats and therefore our trip currently consists of Boer and Boer cross goats (meat).

Boer goats are a breed of goat that was developed in South Africa in the early 1900s and is a popular breed for meat production. Their name is derived from the Afrikaans (Dutch) word boer, meaning farmer! Boers are noted for being docile, fast-growing, and having high fertility rates. Does are reported to have superior mothering skills as compared to other breeds of goats. Due to their versatility on different terrains, Boer goats are frequently used for land maintenance, especially to prevent bush encroachment on rangelands. As typical browsers, the goats are able to suppress re-growth after bush thinning and to browse from plants up to 1.8 meters high, standings on their hind legs. They are great gardeners!

The American goat meat industry is highly influenced by Boer goat meat and it's becoming much more sought after. The present importation of goat meat into the United States comes mostly from Australia and New Zealand. Instead, why not purchase chevon from a local and repuatble source, with good quality products?

Duke, our strong breeding buck, is a purebred Boer who is registered with the American Boer Goat Association as are a few of our breeding does. All are vaccinated to conform to veterinary guidelines for the state of Minnesota. The vaccines administered are for pnuemonia, tetanus, enterotoxemia, and internal and external parasites. Due to the many problems that can arise from disbudding, we do not dehorn our goats. All the goats here are free ranged and during the winter months, are fed a mixture of grains and local hay.
