Barred Rocks, Rhode Island Reds, Cinnamon Queens, Speckeled Sussex and a sweet Buff Orpington mix make up the flock here. All are very cold weather tolerant, hearty and excellent egg producers. Penny, the Buff Orpington mix, is a white egg layer while all the others lay a wide array of brown eggs.

The chickens usually free range however, on some occasions they stay within their run which allows them room to run, dust bathe and other activities. They are fed a mixture of scratch grains, natural calcium, oats, corn and other farm grown goodies. During the winter, they are kept toasty warm in their large room that is eqipped with toys, hanging photos and lots of items to keep them busy. They also enjoy warmed up oats, corn and cayenne pepper when it gets really chilly outside!
